L’antico nome di Tiglieto, a giudizio di alcuni storici, dovrebbe essere Civitacula. Il termine significa piccolo borgo o città cinta da mura, e pare fosse già conosciuta in epoca romana. I Longobardi ne fecero il centro della Selva dell’Orba. Il paese si formò anticamente attorno all’ABBAZIA CISTERCENSE DI S.MARIA ALLA CROCE.
L’area del Comune di Tiglieto oggi si divide in cinque regioni: Acquabuona, Badia, Montecalvo, Vinazza e Terraciocca. Non ci sono agglomerati urbani vasti, tutto il territorio è caratterizzato da un paesaggio straordinario, da ricchissima vegetazione e da corsi d’acqua limpidissima, con LAGHETTI in buona parte balneabili. In località Badia il Torrente Orba è attraversato dal monumentale PONTE MEDIEVALE.

The ancient name of Tiglieto, in the opinion of some historians, should be Civitacula. The term means a small village or town surrounded by walls, and seems to have just known in Roman times. The Lombards made it the center of Selva Orbe. The country was build up around the ancient CISTERCIAN ABBEY OF S. MARIA ALLA CROCE. Tiglieto’s area today is divided into five regions: Acquabuona, Badia, Montecalvo, Vinazza and Terraciocca. There are large urban areas, the whole region is characterized by an extraordinary landscape, from lush vegetation and crystal clear rivers and the many LAKES in large part to swim. Territory of Badia in Orba Torrent is crossed by the monumental Medieval Bridge.

La Badia di Tiglieto risale al 1120 ed è primo monastero Cistercense fondato fuori dalla Francia. Nei pressi, ponte medioevale.
The Abbey of Tiglieto dates back to 1120 and is first Cistercian mona-stery established outside of France. Near there is the medieval bridge.
